FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT
& the college of tomorrow
a project for MCWB Architects
a project for MCWB Architects
My role in project:
Executed the completed digital realization of Frank Lloyd Wright’s unbuilt masterplan for the Western Campus of Florida Southern College. This project involved interpreting historical architectural drawings to model multiple design iterations, creating a dynamic, interactive master campus model (including terrain and building toggles), and preparing all components for 1/9th-scale 3D printing. The resulting physical model is now featured in a traveling museum exhibit .
The image carousel below shows FLW's original campus plans, then my 3D recreations of thee plans using real topography data, and accurately modeling all built and unbuilt structures designed, followed by the final 3D printed model.
Individual Models
All images in this section are not to be redistributed without express permission from Tobiah Gieser. All collapsable groups show some of the original FLW architectural plans I worked off of, my 3D models, and images of the acutal building (if it was built).
Florida Southern College's science building, sprawling along a hill through the center of campus. Houses the only completed planetarium designed by Wright.
Completed in 1952 as an industrial arts building, housing the Home Economics Department and industrial workshops.
Featuring a round reading room jutting out from the book stacks this building was completed in 1945 and served as the college's main library for many years. Wright's "little dipper" motif was used in this building.
Danforth Chapel was completed in 1955 and remains very similar to Wright's original design today. A highlight is the leaded stained glass window at the from of the chapel.
